Genius A genius is a person who influences another for good or bad. This notion of a genius is parallel to the purpose of a philosopher. Through influences either one person or an entire population a philosopher spread not only his ideas but increases his legacy. Two such philosophers, whose teachings were widely praised, either in their own lifetime or in future generations, are Socrates and Machiavelli. Although, both of these philosophers are known regarded as geniuses, it was not the case within their own lifetimes. Both Socrates' and Machiavelli's differing ideas survived their own lives and have reached the present. The actual lives of Socrates and Machiavelli before philosophy differed. Socrates was born in Athens and there he received his elementary education. Socrates later left his wife and three children to further his education.
