Did Socrates Discover God? English IV Christian Life Academy February 23, 2006 If Socrates ever wrote a single word, it hasn't survived. Everything that the modern world knows of Socrates comes from secondary sources, such as Plato or Aristotle. What knowledge does exist of him describes Socrates as a man completely and utterly devoted to philosophy and to getting the people around him to ask themselves what he thought were life's most important questions. He believed that bettering the quality of ones soul was the best service one could do oneself. He preached from his soapbox about many of the same things that Judeo-Christian societies stand for today. But how could Socrates stand for what are thought to be "Christian" beliefs if a Christ had not shown up yet? Could Socrates be the true founder of Christianity, discovering God? I don't think so, but I do believe Socrates reflected the heart of God....
