Question 2 Consciousness presents us with one of the most puzzling problems in the science of the mind. We feel that we have intimate knowledge of conscious experience, yet have difficulty when we try to explain it. Philosophers and psychologists alike have tried to find an explanation in recent years, yet their theories always seem to fall. Some have even suggested that the problem has no solution and said that no good explanation can be given. The difficulty lies in the fact that there is not just one problem with consciousness - it is an ambiguous term, which refers to many phenomena. The problems of consciousness that seem easier to solve are those that seem to explain phenomena using standard methods of cognitive science.
