Vedas is one of the characteristics of Hinduism. The term Veda is evolved from the element called "Vid" which means knowing. One can gain knowledge only by knowing it properly. Basically the meaning of Veda is knowledge. The Vedas are eternal truths revealed by God to the great ancient Rishis of India. The Rishis saw the truths or heard them. Vedas is also known as "Shruti" the "Shruti" is evolved from the element "Shru" which means hearing. Although it has been said that the Gods dictated the Vedas and the Sages heard them and wrote them. Although their origins and antiquity are still unknown, the Vedas themselves can be examined. The Vedas are a collection of ancient sacred hymns comprised of four parts, which appear to have developed over time. The earliest are the Samhitas, hymns of praise and worship of deities.
