A DAY IN THE LIFE OF AN ANCIENT EGYPTIAN PRIEST FROM THE NEW KINGDOM The new kingdom priests were the first to be officially appointed as, in the way we regard professional priests today. Before then the priests would have been servants to there communities and therefore been normal townsmen who were only meant to be priests for about one month then they could return to their normal lives for this month they weren't even allowed to be with their wives. This tradition continued in lower priests even in the new kingdom for example the phylae-priests who weren't the lowest priests but were attendants for preservation of purity in a temple they basically went around cleaning and anointing the statues of the main god helping to Cleanse the main priest and general other orderly tasks. Then there are the other forms of priests for instance the hryw-hb these were lector priests...
