... HOW MUCH CREDIT DOES DISRAELI DESERVE FOR CONSERVATIVE SOCIAL REFORM IN 1874 -1880? Disraeli deserves a large amount of the credit from the social reform in 1874 to 1880. He was indisputably enthusiastic and concerned for the working class, this may well be due to his up bringing in a lower class lifestyle. When Disraeli was conducting his campaign in the run up to 1874 election he talked of one nation conservatism and pushed the idea of a party that was less aristocratic and genuinely concerned for the working class. He promised social reform and in fairness he did push a number of reforms through during his 2nd ministry 1874-1880. He clearly puts a lot of effort into making sure this reform takes place, showing he does deserve a large amount of the credit for completing this. During Gladstone's first ministry 1868-1874 Disraeli had heaped criticisms on him for his preoccupation with
