Have a little read: ... HISTORY ESSAY : WHAT HAPPENED TO THE JULY MONARCHY ? In France the July Revolution had assured the supremacy of the upper bourgeoisie. The charter was redefined to exclude the constitutional claims of both the Ultra right and the republican left. Devine right, press censorship a special tribunals were swept away. The Catholic Church lost its monopoly as the religion of the State. The new electoral law reduced the tax qualifications of deputies. The National Guard was reorganized and memberskhip limited to thiose who paid direct taxation. Louis Philippe was himself a personification and reflection of the new order. He was committed to share power with the nation's representatives and always governed with a ministry that was able to command a majority in the chamber. From the beginning the July Monarchy was attacked by all those who felt themselves cheated or betrayed: 1. Followers of Charles X tried to keep alive the clerical tradition. 2.
