"I t is not neceessarily true that medival soldiers treated enemies well, although this may seem so in legend. Look at Froissarts Chronicles of !00 years war - genocide, the hanging of enemy leaders, villages and their inhabitants burned etc. Nor was it true that they only fought for honourable ideas - the war mentioned was to gain their king control of France, to which, according to French law he had no right."
