Numerous classical sources have documented how fearsome the Celts were in battle. The above quotation suggests that the Celts were without tactics or any kind of planning on the field of battle, it suggests that Celtic warfare was completely uncalculated. It suggests that the Celts did not know what they were doing on the battlefield and ventured into battle spontaneously. In this essay I will investigate whether the above quotation is a true assessment of how the Celts approached warfare or whether tactics, planning and structure were present in Celtic warfare. In explaining the nature of Celtic warfare it would be useful to look upon documentation produced by the Celts, however no such documentation exists, as Celtic culture was fundamentally oral....
