Rachel Cotten AH 315 Humanism Throughout Time: The Search for Excellence What is humanism? Humanism is the name given to the intellectual, literary, and various scientific movements through out time. It can also be considered a movement which is aimed at basing every sphere of learning on the literature and culture of classical antiquity and has many different roots and themes in early Greek culture, it also defined the Renaissance era, and is found all through out modern society today. "Humanism is the idealistic belief that highlights the dignity and merit of the individual" (Worldnet). There are many different types of humanism however and without addition definition humanism in of itself is a very empty concept. One such label is cultural humanism; which is basically a concept that knowledge can be obtained through rational thought and experimentation.
