Roman writers have left many examples of how wide spread they believed the Jews were proselytising the Roman people, they also believed that these attempts at proselytising (converting) were infecting the Roman citizenry, weakening the Roman culture, ideas and identity. Although to most Romans the Jewish practises would appear to be extremely non-Roman packed full of superstations. Some Romans did convert to Judaism, as well as Jewish sympathisers. Juvenal writes that although there are Jewish sympathisers it is not them that the Jews proselyte rather it is their children that become Jewish proselytes, 'Some who have had a father who reveres the Sabbath...Having been wont to flout the laws of Rome, they learn and practise and revere the Jewish law and all that Moses handed down in his secret tome.'1 It appears
