Q. What are the social costs and benefits of the channel tunnel rail link being constructed in Stratford and the local area? The CTRL will be a new 68-mile high-speed railway line linking the Channel Tunnel with London. With a new terminus at St. Pancras and new stations at Stratford and Ebbsfleet in Kent. On 2 July 2001, Transport Minister John Spellar MP signalled the start of the Section 2 construction works at Stratford to complete the CTRL into London. The entire project will be completed in 2007. This project will affect many people ranging from local residents to large companies. I will be explaining the social costs and benefits of the CTRL construction. One the most obvious benefits is that the line will more than double the capacity for international passenger services and reduce international journey times by about 35 minutes.
