A serious risk to the entire nation is emerging with implications that are unimaginable in size to comprehend. This risk comes in the form of the Yucca Mountain Project which is the proposed sight in Nevada for a repository intended for the disposal and burial of some 77,000 tons of highly radioactive nuclear waste from nuclear power plans across the United States. Congress, backed by President Bush, is pushing hard for this project and if implemented, the first shipments may begin as early as the year 2010. The inherent problem here lies in the transportation of this lethal waste product across America and how safe is it to store over the hundreds of thousands of years it remains toxic. The Yucca Mountain sight where the toxic waste is to be shipped, is roughly one hundred miles north of Las Vegas, Nevada.
