SF Lab M1: Flow Measurement Group: 3 Eoin Kearney 07383002 Objective To compare and calibrate four different flow measurement devices Equipment A small wind tunnel with rectangular section followed by a circular section, an Orifice plate meter (d1=140; d2=108mm), a Venturi meter (d1=140mm; d2=89mm), an entry flow meter (d=140mm) Pitot-static tube a micro-manometer which records pressure in terms of and a damper plate which controls the flow rate. Theory The Bernoulli equation is used in each of the four flow monitoring devices to measure velocity and flow. The Pitot - static tube is used for measuring velocity; the other three remaining devices the entry meter, orifice plate and venture meter are used to measure flow rate. Pressure is measured in and then converted to Pa by multiplying by 9.81. The Bernoulli Equation is Constant (1) Pitot - Static Tube (2) Venturi-Meter, Entry Meter & Orifice Plate (3) From continuity equation (4) Combing equations 3 and 4 the
