Tensile Test Course : Aeronautical Engineering Title : Tensile Test Introduction An experiment was carried out at the City University, in order to determine the stress - strain response of 3 materials. When a gradually increasing load is applied to a typical metal test piece, it starts to extend in a manner such that the extension of the test piece is proportional to the applied load. This type of deformation is known as elastic deformation and continues only up to a certain limit of the load. Beyond this limit the deformation is known as plastic deformation. Depending on the material and the production method used to produce the test piece various kinds of responses are possible in extension to the applied load. For example, a typical mild steel sample might show the force - extension relation s shown in figure 02. But a soft-carbon steel sample may posses a force - extension relation like the one in figure...
