Aircraft Propulsion: How does a turbojet engine work? For my research project I decided to study turbojet engines because I am very interested in aeronautical engineering. Gas turbines are the most common form of aircraft propulsion and the turbojet is the simplest kind of these. I have often wondered how a turbojet engine works and this was the ideal opportunity to find out. For the majority of this report I will only discuss the effects of subsonic air speeds in a turbojet engine because the formulae and explanations can be very complicated and regrettably this will not be a completely comprehensive study. However, I will endeavour to explain some of the effects of fluid velocities above the speed of sound. This is a simplified version of what a turbojet looks like and its parts have been labelled so that the explanations given are clear and can be followed. The...
