Shared Reading Commentary 0601027 Shared reading is a key element in a child's educational development. It is crucial that the teacher's choice of texts meets the planned learning objectives, and that the text is of interest to the class as a whole. Through shared reading, children are able to read books that they may not be able to understand on their own. Rush (2006) states, Shared story reading is considered to be the single most important activity for developing the knowledge required for eventual success in reading. The repetition and predictability of early emergent literacy materials provide opportunities to listen, anticipate, predict and produce patterns. The effectiveness of shared reading is very much in the hands of the teacher and it is essential that he/she can deliver the text to the children in an exciting and interesting way.
