Sarah Grace Burn Assignment 2 An essay investigating the effects of media representations of gender on the teaching of media studies within English and outlining how findings have informed my lesson planning. PGCE (English) 2001-2002 Abstract A contextualised analysis of the ways in which representations of gender affect the teaching of media studies as a discrete subject within English at secondary lesson. Research methods are described and justified. Findings are detailed, explained and used, in addition to my own observations, to inform lesson planning. The introductory lessons to a short unit of work on media representations are produced as a result of primary and secondary research. These are described in detail and clearly linked to the government Standards for the Award of Qualified teacher status. The conclusion re-iterates ideas and relates them to my progression as a trainee teacher.
