Tests, the Final Determinant "The use of standardized tests by schools is commonly criticized. The tests do not necessarily test what students have learned. They do not reveal what the student has achieved" (Wildemuth). Tests should not be the final determinant in evaluating a students overall success. Many things can affect a students performance on a test; students could "choke" when it comes to tests, something can come up the night before a big test that could distract their train of thought. "Our students are tested to an extent that is unprecedented in American history and unparalleled anywhere in the world. Politicians and businesspeople, determined to get tough with students and teachers, have increased the pressure to raise standardized test scores.
