Is there a relationship between learning styles and a student's course of study? Abstract The purpose of this study was to discover whether there is a relationship between learning styles and a student's course of study. A total of 52 students from the University of North London studying Business Administration, Business Management, Events management, Human Resources and Marketing completed the Kolb Learning Style Inventory self-description test. Results found support for the expected relationship. Implications of these results are discussed. Introduction A study was looked at to ascertain the association between the degree course being studied and student's learning style. Elements of learning style appeared in the research literature as early as 1892. The term learning style was probably first used by Thelen (1954) in discovering the dynamics of groups at work (Fatt, 2000).
