Introduction Interpersonal attraction can be based upon the facts that the people concerned have similar ideas, values and beliefs. Newcomb found in his studies (1961) that the above points were in fact important issues in helping room mates to like each other. In 1943 when studying students from two different political backgrounds ( i.e conservative and liberal) that some of those from conservative backgrounds took on liberal attitudes so that they would be accepted by the other group. A different kind of study by Griffitt and Veitch (1974) involved thirteen male persons spending ten days together in a fallout shelter, it appears that by the end of the time those with similar attitudes and opinions seemed to like each other the most.
