Perception has many definitions, Bartlett (1932) claimed perception is an effort after meaning, the most basic way to describe it is 'becoming aware of something via the senses' and perhaps the definition most relevant when referring to perception within education is 'a way of conceiving something'. As human beings we are constantly making assessments and judgements about the environment around us and the people we interact with. Making judgements upon first meeting people is inevitable, to begin with it is based on their appearance as this is the only information we are presented with - their age ,gender, attractiveness, clothes they are wearing and from these a value judgement can be made.
