Education plays an important role in the process of socialisation; both Durkheim and Parsons believe education performs a function that cannot be performed by the family. Education therefore has had to change and adapt to keep in touch with modern society. At present we live in a networked society, this means everything is linked and can be attained much easier. This means there are differences in gender, race, religion, political persuasion, and ethics amongst schools meaning education has to change to meet the demands of the new 'networked society'. The society we live has determined education in the past for example in the nineteen forty's and fifties education wasn't paramount as there was a need to ensure that industry and commerce had enough of the 'right' kind of workers in the post
