Identifying solid Geometric Shapes Lesson Plan Julie Covelli Preview: This is a lesson appropriate for 3rd-4th graders. The students should already have a prior knowledge of and ability to identify basic shapes. The students should have some understanding of angles but it will be reinforced in this lesson. Aim: Students will gain an understanding of how geometric shapes are constructed. Objectives; As a result of this lesson students will be able to: * Identify geometric shapes * Understand concept of symmetry and structure * Construct their own cube or pyramid * Identify angles, identify shapes Materials: Gumdrops, toothpicks, Ziploc bags, visuals of shapes (cone, cube, sphere etc.) Motivation: The teacher will begin class by telling the students that they are architects and will be building a new structure that will resemble a cube.
