Remarkably, it has developed prolifically within the very fabric of our postmodern world and the ubiquitous nature of this musical genre cannot be ignored. It is once again gaining increasing prominence as a widely recognised cultural form of popular entertainment. Its commercial and cultural success is exemplified as audiences can now experience the tantalising scores utilised by advertisers in countless television commercials alongside dramatic performances in sports stadiums and concert halls worldwide. Opera can be experienced via film, video and television and not just within the confines of a grand opera house.
