"It forms the basic unit of social organization and it is difficult to imagine how human society could function without it. In the past the family has been seen as an institution, which has formed the foundations of many societies throughout the world such as morality and the progression of economics. On the other hand, in the light of various observers, the family is seen as an oppressive institution which benefits men only 'Delphy and Leonard cited in Haralambos (1995, pg333)'. In order to try and discover whether family life has lost its significance in contemporary Britain or not, there are certain types of questions that must be kept in mind and asked in order for an effective answer to be given to the
