Trial Coursework for Travel and Tourism Special Interest Holidays Introduction Holidays in Britain increased steadily through the 1950s and 1960s as a result of more and more people using the railways and as more families bought their own cars. But in the 1970s and 1980s, competition from other countries that had package holidays led to the loss of interest the British holiday. The increase in prices in Britain during the 80s and 90s made things worse. Tourism companies began to look at other ways to make British holidays more attractive. It was very important to try to find ways of changing peoples minds to go on holiday at other times in the year, not just in the summer. Part of this involved what are called Special Interest Holidays.
