The Brundtland Report is More a Statement of Reassurance Than a Programme for Future Sustainable Development. Discuss. In nineteen eighty three the United Nations (UN) appointed a commission to discuss and tackle the problem of environmental deterioration caused by economic growth. This commission was named 'The world commission on environment and development' and was chaired by Norwegian Prime-Minister Gro Harlem Brundtland. It was from Brundtland that the subsequent document published containing the commissions findings 'Our Common Future' became known as the 'Brundtland Report.' It was viewed as a landmark report, one of the first to publicise and advocate sustainable development which is now a common and well heard phrase.
