In the 1930's and 1940's most working class people would have travelled to resorts in the UK and 9 times out of ten these would have been by the sea because this is where at the time all the entertainment happened and it was the "in" place to go at the time. However, since then less and less people tend to go to British seaside resorts for long holidays. This is mainly due to the effect of people taking over seas holidays.
