It was designed to offer working handicapped adults one central location to gather once a month for some sort of fellowship. The government offered similar programs but no one could count on them being available every month because their availability of programs was based upon the availability of funds. Then due to governmental regulations certain programs only could be provided and there was no such thing as spontaneous activities. Local church groups provided activities for their members or those handicapped individuals who were interested in joining their church, but the "Get Away Club" was the only reliable organization that was able to provide spontaneous activities for all handicapped individuals in the Tulsa area for whatever each individual is able...
