The purpose of this assignment is to define what is understood by a Global Distribution System (GDS). To discover for what these systems are used for and who uses them. Who are behind the systems and the history, when did they enter the market and what are the future plans. The GDS system is a computer database system used by most travel agents, airlines, car hire companies, hotel chains to book and control availability and travel arrangement for their customers. There are four major GDS systems in Tourism, Amadeus, Galileo, Sabre and Worldspan, most are owned by major airlines and most travel agents are connected to one of the GDS systems.
