Stoke Bruerne has developed and declined from 1700-2003 due to transport changing and developing. This resulted in the canal being built but then as many roads and railways were built the canal's use for transporting goods declined and this resulted in it being used for leisure. I will explain this in more detail. In 1793 canal work began in Stoke Bruerne, this was because previously there had been no easy way of transporting goods. The work would have been hard and backbreaking for the workers. But the end result would have been positive and would have also resulted in an increase of population in the village of Stoke Bruerne, as many people would want to live near such a fabulous invention.
