We intend to analyse the global market for the Apple Ipod. The Ipod, like many Mp3/4 players has become an integral part of portable entertainment and at first glance may be perceived as a luxury good. Upon further reflection, Mp3 players could now be considered to be common place goods because over time it has become the social norm to own an mp3 player as it has a broad appeal to different social economic groups. Because the iPod is heavily differentiated due to its branding it would be considered a Veblen good, meaning it has snob value, effecting demand for this product. The iPod was first introduced into the market in Oct 2001 and has excelled its growth to a current market concentration ratio of 80% making Apple Ipod a clear market leader.
