A market analysis of the UK food service industry 1. Executive summary This report compares the differences and similarities between two companies in the UK food service sector. One is a well established large multi-national company, McDonald's. The other is a small newly formed sole trader company, Joe's Diner. I have used market analysis tools; corporate analysis, steep analysis, and competitive analysis, to compare the two. The findings are that similarities exist because they are impacted by many of the same forces but the scale of their operations is a considerable factor in their approach to their competitive advantage. Joe's competitive advantage is that it offers customers a unique experience and its small scale allows it to be flexible and quickly change with the competitive environment.
