1. Introduction Wal-Mart first began their operations in 1962 with their primary operations being retailing and wholesaling. It has blossomed from just a small chain of stores to a global company with more than 1.3 million associates worldwide. Wal-Mart carries a diversity of products many of which are market leaders1. Wal-Mart's focus on a customer-centric model means it will continue to maintain low prices. Its ability to attract and retain customers may be attributed to its "everyday low prices". Illustrating Wal-Mart's dominance 20 years ago, Wal-Mart almost single-handedly demanded that all suppliers it dealt with used the bar-code, making the bar-code ubiquitous as a result.
