Values and Concepts within the Public Service In a world where market economies, characterised by privatisation are at the point of the day, the values of the modern public service have changed in order to adapt to the demands of the public it serves. Even if it seems quite out fashioned one of the main values of the modern public service is the bureaucratic way in which it is organised and operates. Another important value is the greater emphasis which is placed by the public service on efficiency and effectiveness. Other elements such as integrity and accountability also come to mind when speaking of values. Another important point when discussing the values of the public sector is the impact of politics.
