Virgin Atlantic has become the second largest long-haul airline in the UK. Since 1984 when it was launched, the airline has gained itself a reputation for high quality and good service. The Virgin Group is solely owned by Richard Branson and have a very diverse range of interests. They are internationally known and have interests in over 100 companies in 15 countries. Virgin has a very strong brand name and is known for its hotels, megastores, bookstores, trains and holidays. Travel was added to the portfolio of Virgin businesses in 1984. At the time no-one believed that Virgin would survive as Richard Branson entered the airline industry at the maturity stage of its life cycle. Despite this, Virgin Atlantic was a huge success.
