Almost every country in the world has their own brand name car, and also an assembly line to put them together in. In recent years there has been a crisis building up in the British car industry. Rise of fuel costs, high pound standing and car insurance caused car sales to reach minimum level. The crisis affected many factories, which decided to minimise production and cut jobs. The fact, that UK drivers pay up to 60% more for their cars than other drivers do was also a substantial cause of the sales plummet. In Britain there are more companies making cars than any country in the world - though many are small specialist firms like TVR, Morgan and Lotus.
