Section 2: The UK Chocolate Confectionery Industry In this section, I will analyse the UK chocolate confection industry and will provide detailed statistics coupled with a variety of graphs and charts. I will also compare some of this data with that of European and American confectionery markets. Internationally, the largest consumers of confectionery are the Swedes, each person consuming an average of 18 kg in 2002. The UK comes in 6th place, consuming only 13.7 Kg, however in actual consumer spend the United Kingdom leads the way, spending £38.30 (€57.60) per capita on chocolate alone. This is most probably due to the high prices Britain and the rest of the UK have to endure. Conversely, this does not stop us from being the biggest European spenders in confectionery, biscuit and also savoury snack (crisps) markets, and also having a sugar market worth over £1.8 billion (€2.72), the largest in Europe.
