INTRODUCTION
The Asia Pacific region is becoming increasingly crucial to global automotive sales. Although it has been overshadowed by China's rapid growth in recent years, the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) region is set for steady growth. This, coupled with the implementation of the ASEAN Free-Trade Area (AFTA), has sparked many automakers' interest in the region.
Table 1 shows the number of vehicles registered in the main ASEAN Markets in the year 2002, as well as the forecasted figures for the years 2003 to 2005.
