Competitive Advantage I have investigated the ways in which businesses gain competitive advantage. I have chosen to concentrate on Sony. I have looked at how they have used, and how they are still using techniques to make their products successful, and how they have globally gained 40% of the market share. Sony Corporation was first founded in May 1946. It started out as a small business in Japan that initially turned its hands on any work it could get. The success of the company began when it made Japan's first tape recorder in 1950. From then on Sony concentrated on new ideas, and in May 1954 it made the world's first all-transistor radio. Sony knew that it couldn't compete with large companies if it only stayed within the Japanese market and so it started exporting overseas and achieved two thirds of its turnover in exports in the first two years.
