Case - 1 Andrea Jung's Makeover of Avon Products, Inc. Situation Analysis Avon is the world's leading direct seller of cosmetics, fragrances, and toiletries with annual sales of $5.7 billion in 2000. During the early and mid 1990's, Avon was only able grow revenue and earnings modestly. In 1997, the company hired Charles Perrin to replace outgoing CEO James Preston. Perrin was formally the head of Duracell International between 1994-96. The company also promoted Andrea Jung as the company's President and COO. Preston lacked the experience and expertise in direct sales to be effective at revitalizing Avon's sales. The company promoted Jung to CEO and promoted Susan Kropf to COO. Jung's vision for Avon was clear. She wanted Avon to become the, "ultimate relationship of products and services for women."
