Much like the people whom blast out of cannons at carnivals, it takes a certain type of person to lead others. So what exactly is leadership and who are best fit to lead? Although anybody can look up leadership in a nearby Webster's dictionary, there is no clear-cut definition of leadership. Rather, leadership can mean different things to different people. An assessment allows individuals to identify appropriate recommendations for improvement, through recognition of their leadership abilities, power sources, and conflict resolutions. The trait theory expands on the concept of leaders possessing certain characteristics of individual traits to be effective. "The research on trait theories of leadership has shown that many...factors are important in determining leader success" (Adler, 1991, p. 267).
