Competent In this essay I plan to discover and explain was emotional intelligence (EI) is and investigate its different roles within a group I have once been in. I will look into the group dynamics, investigate if there have been any discrimination within the group and suggest possible solutions we could have taken up at the time to dissolve the discriminations if any were present. EI is the ability to manage and recognising one's emotions and of others. The theory of EI is relatively new, from my research it appears to have originated with Wayne Payne in 1985 but made popular in 1995 by Daniel Goleman who has written several books about the subject matter and it's application to business.
