This merger was necessary for the long-term survival of both companies. The merger could not immediately solve any of the problems both were having, but created an opportunity for them to blend their organizations, expertise and technology know-how in the search for solutions to surviving in the competitive global market. The results of this largest industrial merger in the world were rather disappointing in the beginning. DaimlerChrysler had only been posting low or negative profits for a couple of years after the deal. However, the merger did not lead to this sorry state.
