Decision making in the now global economy has evolved nearly as fast as the new multi-national conglomerates that operate in this truly worldwide economy. These changes have brought about a need by managers to make ever increasingly difficult decisions which incorporate both ethical as well as profit related areas. Schon whilst looking at the decisions making process highlights and contrasts two methods of decision making which he has classified as the 'hard high ground and the swampy lowland'. "In the varied topography of professional practice, there is a high hard ground overlooking a swamp. On the high ground, manageable problems lend themselves to solution through the application of research-based theory and technique.
