Not too long ago, perhaps within the last fifty years, behaviourism and Freudism prevailed. Maslow was one of the key figures that changed a prevailing atmosphere of subconscious demons and heavy emphasis on psychological measurement. He developed his Hierarchy of Needs theory, which is used even today by psychologists and businesses alike as it explains in a simple triangular diagram the ways in which people are motivated to do things such as work or study. One of the benefits of Maslow's Hierarchy is that it can be applied to virtually any situation that requires some form of motivation. Maslow's introduction of his own theory revolutionised and changed psychology forever. Maslow elevated psychology to study a deeper and more complex man. But Maslow's hierarchy is of great historical importance. His statements of needs, moved psychology forward, replacing ideas that treated man as a mechanism, driven by the Id or long forgotten experiences....
