Farmers who irrigated can typically reap two or three harvests every year and get higher crop yields. However, the supply of water become less and less. Today irrigation accounts for two thirds of water use worldwide and as much as 90 percent in many developing countries. This means that irrigation play a leading role in the feeding to the world, but according to history, farmers depend more on irrigated agriculture entails significant risk---severe water scarcity.
