Introduction We, the European Union (EU), are comprised of fifteen member states that act as a unifying force in the European continent. Our mission is to "organize relations between the Member States and their peoples in a coherent manner and on the basis of solidarity."1 The objectives of the institution is to promote economic and social progress, assert the identity of the EU on the international scene, to introduce European citizenship, to develop an area of freedom, security and justice, to maintain and build on existing EU law.2 The EU came out of almost 50 years of negotiations, starting with the establishment of the European Coal and Steel Community in 1953. Then over the next half century it expanded into the European Economic Community to the European Community and finally into the European Union.
