Investment in its country's companies is of key importance for any government. However, there exists a multiplicity of approaches to this area, with many different levels and types of involvement on the part of national governments. Most act favourably towards such opportunities to bring wealth and prosperity to the country, but the wide range of methods, resources etc. available means there exist considerable differences between how governments actually put into practice their intentions. This essay will examine the ways that the British government encourages British companies to engage in international business. The prosperity brought by competitive businesses is an area taken very seriously by the British Government. There has been a large increase in the attention and resources set aside for development in this area and a number of government programmes and initiatives have been implemented since 1999 with the goal of supporting and increasing the presence of British companies...
